Ballet Without Borders X Perth Youth Ballet WA First Partnership

Perth Youth Ballet and Ballet Without Borders Unite to Provide Opportunities for Aspiring Dancers to Perform at His Majesty’s Theatre this August.

The first of its kind in Western Australia, Perth Youth Ballet has launched an exciting partnership with Ballet Without Borders, offering talented young dancers a chance to pursue their dreams despite their current financial position. This collaboration grants a paid-for position with Perth Youth Ballet for the 2024 season, which will see them perform at the renowned and historic, His Majesty’s Theatre this August.

The recipient has exceptional talent and potential but may lack the financial means to pursue ballet at a professional level. This initiative seeks to remove barriers and make ballet accessible, regardless of circumstances, particularly pertinent during these challenging times.

"We are thrilled to work together with Ballet Without Borders to provide this incredible opportunity to young dancers in Western Australia," said Leanna Del Basso, Director of Perth Youth Ballet. "Our mission has always been to nurture and support talented dancers and WA productions. And this partnership enables us to extend that support to those who may otherwise face obstacles."

Katia Kullengren, Founder of Ballet Without Borders, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "At Ballet Without Borders, we firmly believe that every child should have the opportunity to follow their passion for dance, irrespective of financial circumstances. Through this partnership with Perth Youth Ballet, we open doors for talented young dancers and empower them to realise their full potential, on such a prestigious stage at His Majesty’s Theatre."

"Leading Perth Youth Ballet on the stage where my career began is truly a homecoming," said 2024 Perth Youth Ballet Ambassador, former WA Ballet Principal and current Artistic Director, Matt Lehmann. "Being part of Perth Youth Ballet’s mission to support young talent, and together partnering with Ballet Without Borders to provide opportunities for aspiring dancers to explore creativity and perform at His Majesty’s Theatre, is truly inspiring for all dancers."

Ballet Without Borders was founded by Katia Kullengren with a mission to make ballet education accessible to children from all walks of life. Inspired by her own journey and the transformative power of ballet, Kullengren is committed to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for aspiring dancers. Bringing ballet education and ballet pathways to children who would otherwise not be able to access this art form.

Uniting talented dancers from across the state, with the aim of providing extended training and professional production experience with industry leading expert faculty.
