Exploring pretence, illusion, and authenticity — the roles we play, the masks we wear, and the moment something artificial starts to feel real.
A world of perfection.
A choice to be real.
PRETENCE/ COPPÉLIA is a contemporary reimagining of the classical ballet, presented by Perth Youth Ballet, bringing a bold new ballet performance to Perth audiences.
Set within a modern, stylised world, the production explores illusion, authenticity, and what happens when something artificial begins to feel human.
PRETENCE/ COPPÉLIA places character, storytelling, and expressive performance at the centre of the experience. Through a blend of classical and contemporary movement, the work invites dancers to move beyond technique, engaging with narrative, intention, and performance quality.
This is Coppélia reimagined for now, playful, theatrical, and visually striking.
Led by Creative Director Liam Blair with Lauren Limmer, PRETENCE/ COPPÉLIA reflects Perth Youth Ballet’s commitment to creating meaningful ballet performances in Perth. Their international experience and artistic depth guide dancers through a creative process that values clarity, intention, and expressive performance.
ABOUT PERTH YOUTH BALLET
Founded in 2021 by Kevin Jackson and Leanna Del Basso, Perth Youth Ballet brings dancers together from across Western Australia to rehearse, create, and perform as part of a collaborative company.
The organisation focuses on the experience of performance, not exams, not competitions, but the process of working together to bring ballet productions to the stage for Perth audiences.
Uniting dancers from across Western Australia, Perth Youth Ballet celebrates collaboration, artistic development, and the shared passion for ballet.
Unite. Elevate. Inspire.
Introducing, our outstanding faculty, each returning to Perth Youth Ballet in 2026, with international experience, artistic depth, and a strong connection to our recent productions.
