Exploring pretence, illusion, and authenticity, the roles we play, the masks we wear, and the moment something artificial starts to feel real.

A world of perfection.
 A choice to be real.

PRETENCE/ COPPÉLIA is a contemporary reimagining of the classical ballet, exploring illusion, authenticity, and what happens when something artificial begins to feel human.

PRETENCE/ COPPÉLIA places character, storytelling, and expressive performance at the centre of the experience. Exploring pretence, illusion, and authenticity - the roles we play, the masks we wear, and the moment something artificial starts to feel real. Set within a modern, stylised world, the production invites dancers to explore more than technique, engaging with narrative, intention, and performance quality.

This is Coppélia reimagined for now.

PRETENCE / COPPÉLIA is led by Liam Blair, and Lauren Limmer, bringing international experience, artistic depth, and a strong connection to Perth Youth Ballet’s recent productions, guiding dancers through a process that values clarity, intention, and meaningful performance.

ABOUT PERTH YOUTH BALLET

Founded in 2021 by Kevin Jackson and Leanna Del Basso, Perth Youth Ballet brings dancers together from across Western Australia to work towards a shared production. The company focuses on performance - not exams, not competitions - but the experience of rehearsing, creating, and performing as part of a company.

Uniting performers from across Western Australian, all sharing their love for this art form, making wonderful friends and supporting each other as they pursue their passion.

Unite. Elevate. Inspire.

Introducing, our outstanding faculty, each returning to Perth Youth Ballet in 2026, with international experience, artistic depth, and a strong connection to our recent productions.

Liam Blair

Originally from Perth, Liam Blair is a classical ballet teacher and former principal dancer with Aalto Ballett Essen in Germany. His training spans the Charlesworth Ballet Institute, the Australian Ballet School, the School of American Ballet, and the Académie de Danse Princesse Grace in Monaco, where he performed with Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo and Ballet Nice Méditerranée.

Developing our talented cast in 2024 on Divergence, Liam returns in 2026 for Presence of Coppélia, bringing technical precision, musicality, and performance integrity to the next chapter of Perth Youth Ballet.

Lauren Limmer

Lauren Limmer brings extensive international performance experience, having danced with European companies including Badisches Staatsballett Karlsruhe, Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, Stadttheater Bremerhaven, and Landestheater Coburg.

After working closely with Perth Youth Ballet in 2024 on Divergence and in 2025 on Essence of Sleeping Beauty at His Majesty’s Theatre, Lauren returns in 2026, continuing her artistic collaboration with the company and building on the strong foundations established in recent seasons.

We are thrilled to welcome Liam & Lauren back, as they continue to shape and inspire our dancers in 2026.
